Magistrates Court

All adults who are charged or summonsed with a criminal offence will initially appear before the Magistrates Court. We provide advice and representation for every stage of Magistrates Court proceedings including:

  • Plea, bail applications, trials and sentencing
  • Advice on committals for trial or sentence to the Crown Court
  • Advice on appeals against conviction and/or sentence in the Crown Court
  • Road Traffic Offences

We not only assist in defending prosecutions instigated by CPS, but also these brought by other agencies such as DWP and BCS.

JSPS has an extensive client following in particular in both Basildon and Southend Magistrates Court. Our friendly and accessible team includes our Partners Mark Pearson and Mark Jerman who have a large client base in Basildon and at Southend Magistrates Court our Partner Simon Samuels is by far the most requested advocate. We provide a personable, understanding, confident and expert service which means you will be receiving the best possible representation to gain the best possible result.

Youth Court

All young people between the age of 10 and 17 years who are charged or summonsed with a criminal offence will initially appear before the Youth Court. We provide advice and representation for every stage of those proceedings and have Youth Court specialists who are able to advise on the different sentencing options available in the Youth Court and those offences that are too serious to remain in the Youth court and will proceed to the Crown Court.

We will advise clients on the most suitable form of funding. Funding for Magistrates Court work is often available through legal aid or on a private fee basis.
